Internalization of the Value of Mutual Cooperation in the Unjung-Unjungan Tradition of Pabean Udik Village, Indramayu District, Indramayu Regency

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation process of the Unjung-unjungan tradition and analyze the internalization of mutual cooperation values within the community of Pabean Udik Village, Indramayu District, Indramayu Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research subjects consisted of community leaders, traditional leaders, village officials, and local residents involved in the implementation of the tradition. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the Unjung-unjungan tradition is carried out through three main stages: preparation, core implementation, and closing activities. During the preparation stage, community members collaboratively prepare all necessary materials and arrangements. The core implementation includes cultural parades, collective prayers, and thanksgiving ceremonies at the Jaka Dolog Heritage Site as a form of respect for ancestors and gratitude to God Almighty. The closing stage is marked by entertainment activities and social interaction among community members. The internalization of mutual cooperation values is reflected in community collaboration during preparation, active participation from all members of society, organized task distribution, and collective involvement in carrying out activities for the common good. This tradition functions not only as a cultural heritage and religious ritual but also as a means of strengthening social relationships, enhancing community solidarity, and serving as a medium of social education for younger generations in fostering togetherness, responsibility, and social awareness. Therefore, the Unjung-unjungan tradition plays an important role in preserving local wisdom and reinforcing the social identity of the community amid contemporary social changes.
